Build Identifier: I20100608-0911 After selecting a few lines in a text editor and opening Find/Replace, the lines are marked as search scope and the radio button "Selected lines" is selected. As soon as the find/repalce dialog loses focus, the scope is removed and "All" is selected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Select several lines of text in a text editor, e.g. the java editor 2. Open Find/Replace by pressing Ctrl+F 3. Either a) Click on the window title of the eclipse main window b) Select another window in the task bar and switch back to eclipse 4. Observe how the search scope is gone
I have found the place where the scope is removed: It happens in FindReplaceDialog.java in the method shellDeactivated of the ActivationAdapter. It seems as if this was done on purpose, but there is no comment why that is necessary and how it makes sense.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
