Description L. Frank Turovich CLA 2010-06-25 15:01:31 EDT
Was having problems viewing a new splash screen for our product until I noticed my graphic program had saved it in 32-bit depth. Once I converted it to 24-bit it appeared fine. As 32-bit is used more, others may encounter the issue as well.

In order of preferences I'd like to see:

1. Remove the 24-bit depth restriction was removed

2. Minimally, add the 24-bit depth restriction to the docs page org.eclipse.pde.doc.user/guide/tools/editors/product_editor/splash.htm.

3. (optional) Support other formats (PNG, JPG) for splash screen

The limitation does not stem from PDE - see bug 232850. Moving to Equinox Framework for comment. I'll open a new bug in PDE to doc the limitation.

Was this for Motif? I'm not aware of this being a limitation on windows.

Would post a patch to the docs but can't seem to get anonymous access to the cvs pde directory.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
