Description David Williams CLA 2010-06-18 22:28:26 EDT
I tried recently to use the format attribute in a p2 mirror task, to avoid the destination repo having a .blobstore, and instead have the pack.gz files as siblings of the jars. I used the "source" repository, which was a composite repo, where each sub repo did have the packed jars as siblings. I got this idea from reading bug 312962.

But, it didn't work. I am assuming because the source was a composite, so there wasn't much "format" to copy/reuse in the destination.

I suppose I could have tried using one of the sub-repos as the "format source", but that isn't quite right (I should not have to know sub-repos, might have wrong name, or other properties, which I don't want ... what properties does it have, which are copied, or relevant? ... so, that's why I used the term "insufficient" in the bug title.

Seems it would be better to have a "specification" to use for new repo, instead of having to copy from some old one. Such as format=packedFilesAsSiblings, etc.

I tried to read more about the format attribute, and could only find this documentation: "A URL to another repository from which to copy the repository name and other properties."

What? What other properties? all? some?

I'm sure this sounds like a "dumb user question" to you p2 experts ... but, that's never stopped me before :)

Just wanted to let you know one small item that makes it hard to understand and use p2.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
