The P2 Dev forum http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=32& does not have a NNTP link beside it in the main forums list. When browsing news.eclipse.org with a newsreader, I can not find the p2 forum to subscribe to.
Well, as far as I can tell there never was a p2-dev newsgroup, only a mailing list. Do you (p2) want a newsgroup? -M.
(In reply to comment #1) > Do you (p2) want a newsgroup? > I think we want to be consistent with the other forums under the Eclipse Project forums link (http://www.eclipse.org/forums/index.php?t=index&cat=1&). AFAICT the p2-dev forum is the only one without an nntp link. Many folks in our community have become used to using a newsgroup to interact with our forums.
Most Eclipse projects use the forums/newsgroups for user-level communication and mailing lists for dev discussion.
(In reply to comment #3) > Most Eclipse projects use the forums/newsgroups for user-level communication > and mailing lists for dev discussion. Good point, we do use the p2-dev@eclipse.org for dev discussions. I actually did not pay attention to the p2 dev name for the forum (other than it had p2 in the name). I do think we intend use the p2 forum for user-level communication and perhaps it needs a new name to reflect that.
So shall I create eclipse.p2 as the newsgroup? -M.
(In reply to comment #5) > So shall I create eclipse.p2 as the newsgroup? > > -M. I will let Pascal chime in his opinion. I think the newsgroup would be rt.equinox.p2 and it should be linked (proper term?) to the forum mentioned in comment 0. I don't really care myself since I have moved to using the web forum instead of a news reader to access the forums.
Well 'eclipse' is the prefix for all of our newsgroups so that would mean the named would be: eclipse.rt.equinox.p2 . But we're trying to streamline things which is why I'm suggesting eclipse.p2 . Pascal, any comments? -M.
Consistency is good with me for now.
Ok, I've created eclipse.p2, added the forum and closed the current forum with a notice pointing folks at the new forum. -M.
