Description Felix Saphir CLA 2010-05-17 13:54:48 EDT

Most times, double clicking on a result in the lower search result pane opens a new editor tab (and the file the match was found in). But sometimes, after a while, the contents of the currently open editor tab seems to be replaced. It seems like the hey-the-user-double-clicked-on-a-search-result-let's-open-the-file-action seems to be stuck on that single editor tab. Only workaround is to drag'n'drop the "match" in the editor, which opens the file in a new tab.
Restarting the IDE doesn't help.

I could not find a similar entry in neither Bugzilla nor the forum, which btw. doesn't let me login.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Guess bug belongs to platform-search
Comment 2 Dani Megert CLA 2010-05-18 01:55:50 EDT
I assume you hit the maximum number of open editors and then the last one is always reused (see General > Editors preference page). You can also choose whether Search reuses editors to show matches (General > Search preference page).

If that doesn't solve your problem then please provide more detailed steps to reproduce and then reopen this bug.

1.) Clone SWT repo and import projects
2.) Search for "test_addSelectionListener"
3.) Navigate to the first test and double-click the class containing the test
-> Open new editor
4.) Navigate to the next text in another file and double-click on this class
-> Closes the tab (editor) from step 3 and opens the new class

Double-click on a file in Project Explorer opens new editor, behavior should be consistent with search.

Out of the box Search reuses the editor unless dirty, see
General > Search > [x] Reuse editors to show matches.
