Are you looking for numbered titles in section headings, in the table of contents, or both?

I think if the sections are numbered in the text *and* a @__TOC__@ is requested then the section in the TOC should also be numbered. Maybe others have other opinions?

It would be helpful to have an example of the desired output that shows how you would like to see numbering applied to both the table of contents and to headings in the document.

Hi David, in case nobody else is wanting this you may resolve as wontfix because I've switched to a different solution in the meantime. But I had something in mind like the numbering you can see in MS Word.

Great, thanks Eike.  Was section numbering the only thing holding you back from using Mylyn WikiText, or was there something else as well?

No, it was other reasons, as well.
