Please try with 3.6M7.

Also, please attach the crash file (hs_err_<pid>.log for Sun VM, for example).

This is the file I am importing on linux when eclipse crashes.

I have to reboot linux to grab the crash file. So it may be an hour or two before I have the opportunity to do that.
Comment 4 Remy Suen CLA 2010-05-05 11:27:11 EDT
This may possibly be caused by bug 308270.

I want to try with 3.6M7 -- however, I am very new to eclipse. How do I install 3.6M7?

I have downloaded and extracted:
eclipse-platform-3.6M7-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz

but I am not sure if this is all I need and how do I upgrade?

The readme file shows a section 3.2.8 Platform - Install/Update; but this seems to be specifically geared to windows. The Eclipse we are running is a Parasoft flavor 7.3.1.56.

Just get eclipse-SDK-3.6M7-linux-gtk.tar.gz and import your preferences and see if the crash occurs.

You would have to first figure out which version of Eclipse this product is based on.

Eclipse Platform

Version: 3.6.0.v20100121-9hF71GITFufnsj44XsigdRiv20ClbUb3ou

You need to use p2 to try and update then.

got eclipse-SDK-3.6M7-linux-gtk.tar.gz unrolled it and double-click on eclipse
61.5 kb executable and nothing happens. Notes say I also need a 1.4.2 JRE, but
don't see that on the download list.

Sorry, I didn't notice you're on a 64-bit system, get the 64-bit build instead.
Comment 15 Scot Morgan CLA 2010-05-06 13:56:01 EDT
I was able to download and import my preferences successfully with the 64 bit version, except there was no c++ tab in the preferences. So now the next step is how do I integrate this with Parasoft??

The Eclipse SDK doesn't come with C/C++ tooling, so that would be why.

I hope you're not trying to feed those links into the browser. That is not what they're for. Use the provisioning system under the 'Help' menu or ask Parasoft for assistance. We do not know if their code will run on these newer versions of Eclipse, you should check with them.
Comment 17 Scot Morgan CLA 2010-05-06 14:02:33 EDT
I might be able to get Parasoft to give us a new build based on 3.6M7
