The current server.p2 feature makes a few assumptions and has some hard coded dependencies that do not always apply. - The ECF transports (e.g., the HTTP and apache related bundles) are not needed in various cases. For example, when using repos that are file-based (local or networked). Having HTTP clients in the server will be challenging for some scenarios. Ideally ECF would produce an easy to use feature that would add HTTP support to a system basing comms on ECF. - A number of bundles are "included" when they should likely be "required". including them binds the feature to a precise version of the bundle. Where the bundle is likely to appear in other features, this can setup conflicts. Examples include - equinox.app (not sure why that is required in any event) Any apps in p2 bundles should have a optional dependency on the app API. - equinox.preferences - There should be some sort of dependency on simple.configurator.
With the introduction of the equinox.core, equinox.p2.core and p2.extras features, the p2.server feature should be reviewed.
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
