Description Olivier Thomann CLA 2003-02-05 13:47:02 EST
Using 0129, I cannot resize this dialog. This is quite frustrating, because with
long projects and package names there is a lot of scrolling involved to select
the classes for which I want the javadoc to be generated.
So this dialog is either too small or should be resizable. I vote for the second
solution since this might be the more flexible solution.
Comment 1 Dirk Baeumer CLA 2003-02-05 14:02:41 EST
This is the standard export wizard, which is provided by the platform. Moving
to platform to comment on the request to make the dialog resizable.

If not, then we can enlarge the wizard pages, but this might be a sub-optimal
solution.
Comment 2 Olivier Thomann CLA 2003-02-05 14:08:52 EST
The question is more: Why are this dialog non-resizable? I think it is pretty
frustrating not being able to resize a window, especially when I have a tree in
a small frame.
Comment 3 Tod Creasey CLA 2003-02-06 11:27:50 EST
I have checked all of our wizard pages and they exapd just fine. I see no
reason to not do this.

Subject to approval for 2.1 as we are in M5.
Comment 4 Nick Edgar CLA 2003-02-06 11:48:13 EST
All wizard pages in the SDK handle resizing, including all of PDEs? If so we
can go ahead, but it's late to be putting in a change like this and I don't
want to distract other teams from bug fixing.
Comment 5 Tod Creasey CLA 2003-02-06 11:58:02 EST
Yes they do. However there are lot of other people outside of Eclipse who will
be working on this - it is likely a good 2.2 idea.
Comment 6 Nick Edgar CLA 2003-02-06 14:27:44 EST
I think we should defer to 2.2.
Comment 7 Olivier Thomann CLA 2003-02-06 14:31:55 EST
This remains a serious usability issue. For example, without resizing, the
javadoc wizard is useless. I prefer to use the command line tool.
Comment 8 Nick Edgar CLA 2003-02-06 16:40:39 EST
Why is it useless? Perhaps there's a deeper usability issue here than just the
size of the dialog.
Comment 9 Olivier Thomann CLA 2003-02-06 16:42:32 EST
Maybe. But being able to resize this dialog might make it useful. Right now if
you want to generate the javadoc you constantly need to scroll to find the
classes or packages you want to export. Too bad if this is not fixed for 2.1.
Comment 10 Tod Creasey CLA 2003-02-06 16:44:11 EST
I think the layout of the javadoc wizard is the bigger issue here - they
should size the two panes more like the regular export dialogs.
Comment 11 Nick Edgar CLA 2003-02-06 16:56:16 EST
I have verified with Kevin that products building on top of Eclipse 2.1 will
not have time to adjust to this change.
Recommend having the Javadoc wizard specify a larger initial size.
Comment 12 Tod Creasey CLA 2003-02-06 16:57:36 EST
I have logged Bug 31169 about the javadoc case and I am renaming this one to
be more general.

If Pires or Henry scores against United next week I will fix this first thing
in the 2.1 stream <grin>....
Comment 13 Tod Creasey CLA 2003-02-06 16:58:14 EST
I meant 2.2 stream...

Comment 16 Martin Aeschlimann CLA 2003-10-17 08:54:52 EDT
is something planed for 3.0?
Comment 17 Nick Edgar CLA 2003-10-17 11:52:30 EDT
Tod, do you have any fresh ideas here? I still don't see how to do this
without causing breakage. Martin, how does the JDT team feel about having to
ensure that all JDT wizards be able to adjust to resizing?
Comment 18 Martin Aeschlimann CLA 2003-10-17 12:00:35 EDT
My (optimistic) guess is that most of our wizards would already handle a resize
correctly and if not- we would fix it ASAP!
Comment 19 Tod Creasey CLA 2003-10-17 12:16:54 EDT
I think it is just a matter of setting the resize flag. I checked all of this
back in 2.1 and there wasn't any resize breakage - the fact that these have to
be designed for different fonts anyways means that most pages should just work.
Comment 20 Nick Edgar CLA 2003-10-17 12:29:21 EDT
Well, we did this for the preferences dialog a while back, and clients seem to
have adjusted. It's worth a shot.
Comment 21 Michael Van Meekeren CLA 2004-05-21 13:23:55 EDT
just tried in I20040521 and it is fixed
