I can merge "everything" defined in the model (bug 295524) but I cannot merge information like "what's the active part" because that information resides in the _context_.

I don't particularly care who gives me this information, the model itself, the model service (bug 298887), or the part service (bug 295003), but I need someone to relay me this information. :O

If it's persistent then it should be in the model...so we should have some sort of active chain MRU reference list. Its contents are the elements that have been *explicitly* activated (i.e. only the leaf element gets into the list, not any of its parents that may also have to be activated) in MRU order.

The question is where to store the activation chain's list I think. The 3.x code seems to do this on a per-perspective basis, do we want to follow this lead for 4.0? If so then what do we do with apps that don't use perspectives?

As of I20100618-1748 the active part is still not restored on a restart.

Start eclipse 4.0
Select the Problems view by clicking its tab (so it's the active part)
Shut down / restart

Note that the Package Explorer is active

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and remove the stalebug whiteboard tag. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
