For the e4 visual design, we are thinking of ways in which we could be "platform theme respecting" for base colors. For example, suppose our style sheet was to specify variants of a base color for the different tab states (hover, selected, non-selected). We might want things to "light up" on hover or become darker or brighter when selection changes. Likewise, the local toolbar areas or certain separators might be related to a platform theme color. For example, we might want to have a "washed out" version of some dominant theme color. In CSS you have to specify an RGB color for the background. It'd be nice if instead we had a way to specify HSV, or even better *SV, where * was a base hue derived from the platform theme. A web way would be to provide a transparent image for each state and set the CSS background dynamically to provide the hue. This might work for something like tabs where an image might be provided, but what about setting background colors on widgets or lines, etc...where an image isn't provided.
This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant. -- The automated Eclipse Genie.
