Description Robert Elves CLA 2009-11-18 19:47:16 EST
What are thoughts on changing the Task List toolbar to
break out a query menu? We currently need to hand hold to
show where the query buttons are but we should be able to leverage
iconography to make this intuitive especially for something so
fundamental to use of the task list.

[Task | v] (default is new)
* New Task...
* List of Repositories (clicking creates new task on selected repo)
* Add Repository...

 [Query | v ] (default is new)
* New Query...
* New Category...
* List of Repositories (clicking creates new query against selected repo)
* Synchronize All
* Add new Repository...

Since Query swallows the Synchronize All button the number of buttons
remains the same in the toolbar.

I am torn whether this additional button is really needed since it's an infrequent (configuration type) action. On the other hand query creation is very important when using the task list with repository tasks and it's a bit harder to discover at the moment than task creation.

I'm -1 on moving the Sychronize All button. I also don't see the logical relation to creating queries. I don't have the task list in automatic synchronization mode in some workspaces and use that button multiple times per day. Looking at other Eclipse views it seems reasonable to add up to 10 buttons in the view toolbar.

A long time Mylyn user may know that all tasks from a repo get synced when this button is pressed, but for somebody that has learned that tasks are brought into the task list (and synchronized) via queries, my suspicion is that it would make more sense that the Synchronize All action be associated (spatially and iconographically) with queries rather than repositories. Its just a theory at this point.

Mylyn has been restructured, and our issue tracking has moved to GitHub [1].

We are closing ~14K Bugzilla issues to give the new team a fresh start. If you feel that this issue is still relevant, please create a new one on GitHub.
