Description Carolyn MacLeod CLA 2001-10-10 22:46:06 EDT
This feature is something that VAME had.
When you started up the workbench, it brought up a dialog with a combo box and Browse button,
from which you could specify the workspace (or 'target' directory) that you wanted to work from.

In Eclipse, we have the -data option, which is fine. I am NOT saying to get rid of that or anything,
and I am also NOT saying to bring up the VAME-like dialog every time Eclipse starts.

What I AM saying is that I personally have several workspaces (targets) that I like to switch back
and forth to. Currently, I keep several desktop icons with different -data parameters.

But back in the VAME days, I found it quite convenient to get the nice dialog, and just select the
workspace I wanted to work in currently. Personally, if that was an Eclipse option (say, -dialog or something)
then I would run Eclipse that way.

Another aspect of this feature from VAME that I would use if it was in Eclipse is the "Open Workspace..."
menu item on the File menu. (It basically brings up the same dialog to choose among several saved workspaces).
I used to use that a lot. The kind of thought process is: "OK, now I need to work on the 1.0NL version and look at some bug.
Then I can go back to the 2.0 version to do new work."

This is actually a Core feature request and they have several variations of
this request already. So I am just going to close this one.

Here is the main PR in Core that discusses this feature request:
