Denis, could you help import the contribution?
Comment 6 Gabe O'Brien CLA 2009-11-19 16:35:21 EST
I took a pass at importing these translation on the staging server. Kit can you take a look at the recent translations? If things look fine the I will do the same for the live server.

BIRT_2.5.0_Translations-Unicode.zip

Gabe, the files were not imported in the correct encodings. They were all written in their native encodings:

de_DE: windows-1252
es_ES: windows-1252
fr_FR: windows-1252
ja_JP: Shift_JIS
ko_KR: EUC-KR
zh_CN: GB18030

I've converted all .properties files into Unicode. Hope that will make the import easier. Can we try that again?
Comment 8 Gabe O'Brien CLA 2009-11-20 13:03:11 EST
I uploaded the new files to the server and cleared out the bad translations from yesterday. I will rerun the import script and update the bug when it is done (takes a little while to run).

Could you tell me how you figured out what the encoding was of these files? The wiki docs on importing [1] just say 'ensure they are properly encoded'. Might be worth expanding that a bit. I wasn't even sure what the right encoding was.

Might even be worth opening a bug to add some level of encoding detection to the import script. PHP has some functions on encoding detections [2] (if the server has multibyte string support compiled).

There should be a conversion script in the import directory somewhere. You can use the *nix 'file' command to get a gross idea of what character set is being used..

find /tmp/tmp-import/ -type f -exec file {} \;

The convert script is not necessarily turn-key -- it may work, but it may require you to set the correct iconv values.

The re-imported just finished. I didn't have time to look at the recent translation page, but I will when I get a chance.

I spot-checked the import for all 6 languages. They all look good. I vote to import them to the live server.
Comment 12 Denis Roy CLA 2009-11-20 14:36:03 EST
Looks good to me! Thanks Gabe and Kit!
Comment 13 Gabe O'Brien CLA 2009-11-20 17:04:16 EST
The import to the live server is complete. Please review and let me know if this bug is ready to be closed.

http://babel.eclipse.org/babel/recent.php

I have removed the import script from the live site but left the language files in the tmp directory until this bug is closed.

I also updated the preparation instructions to include the info on finding out the encoding type of files and what type of encoding the files should be in.

Kit can you take a look and make sure it makes sense?

screen shot of recent translations page on FF 3.5.5

I took a look at the recent translation page and none of the translation looks right on FireFox (3.5.5). See the attached screen shot.

But when I switch the page encoding to UTF-8 things look fine. Anyone else having this problem?
Comment 15 Kit Lo CLA 2009-12-12 14:11:17 EST
Gabe, I think it's normal. Translations are saved as UTF-8 in the server. I selected View Page Info in FireFox. It was recognizing my Japanese page's encoding as UTF-8.

The import of the BIRT 2.5.0 translation for 6 languages in group 1 is all complete. Bug resolved. Thanks to all!
