Description Remy Suen CLA 2009-08-28 20:18:31 EDT
For some time now people have been coming on IRC and complaining that their update site combo box is empty. Most people just get the Galileo update site and up and leave but today I managed to extract some information.

1. Untar eclipse-SDK-3.5-linux-gtk.tar.gz in /opt.
2. chown root:root eclipse
3. find . -exec chown root:root {} \;
4. In another terminal on a regular user, invoke /opt/eclipse/eclipse -data ~/tmp-ws
5. Help > Install New Software... > Click the drop down
6. The sites are not there. If I start Eclipse with root then it does.

Is this a bug or some kind of platform limitation? I would be interested in adding this to our IRC FAQ (that nobody ever reads).

This is a known issue. Adding it to the FAQ is a good idea.
