Steps (for someone without commit rights): 1)create a new package (will appear decorated with a question mark if cvs decoration is selected in preferences). 2)right click and select Team->Add to version control. A dialogue will appear witht the message '"add" requires write access to the repository'. This is a big problem for those of us who don't have commit rights and realease stuff by creating patches and have them released by others as it is now impossible to create patches. >20021127. JRT.
Jennifer works with the anonymous repository location to dev.eclipse.org. As far as I can remember she was able to send me patches with new files. Did something change in that area? Marked as critical because non-commiters can not send us one patch. They need to split it up into a patch with new files and the patch. It increases work load on those applying a patch. Note: I know that a separate file is needed for binary files.
Maybe the rights on the repository changed and now cause this behavior? Me as a commiter for several projects can actually add files to version control in other project for which I don't have commit rights.
Nothing changed in the area of patches. The CVS "Create Patch" supports new files but does not support new folders. Patches are not usually the mechanism for providing new packages (i.e. patches are supposed to be small). I understand that there are some cases where this is desirable and in those few cases, for the time being, the developer will need to create a separate zip of the new package (unless a committer creates the remote directory, in which case the developer will then be able to create a patch with the new files). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 19149 ***
