excuse me, but how is someone supposed to find "p2"? how am i supposed to know that i have to look at "rt (whatever that is) > equinox > p2" instead of "platform"? please reassign accordingly, i am too fed up to go through all that again. Build ID: can't see -- p2 blocks everything Steps To Reproduce: 1. got to software update 2. hit "update ..." in "installed software" tab 3. see your eclipse being blocked and no usefull progress information 4. watch time go by More information: starting software update immediately leaves you with an unusable eclipse -- if you are lucky enogh to get a fast response, update most likely breaks shortly after because of the still unfixed "lost artifacts" bug. after solving that by exporting my sites, removing $ECLIPSE_INSTALL_DIR/configuration/.settings/org.eclipse.equinox.p2.* and restarting, p2 at least offers a list of updates but than never finishes. one is left with a blocked screen with a dialog on top saying "operation in progress ..." and a little, mostly incomprehensible field on the bottom with a url cut down to illegibility and a percentage that seldom changes. at the time of writing p2 runs for nearly an hour now without any indication that it will finish in a near future. the last almost twenty minutes the little progress indicator shows only the appended "information". so far p2 ist mostly useless and makes it virtually impossible to update anything -- either updates fail because artifacts are lost in the process or updates never finish.

I assume you are using Eclipse 3.4 release. These problems have been fixed in the 3.5 stream. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 248602 ***
