I have an association class that is extended in the model. When I select the artifact in a class diagram and select "Add related artifacts" I see I am able to check the "Artifacts that extend this artifact" check box. However when I click ok the diagram is not updated. I suspect this is because the ends of the association class are not on the diagram.

Should this operation add the association class and the artifact(s) at its ends?
