I didn't even know this was possible (since I thought it was only available for things like Text and Combo controls). A hearty +1 for more press about this awesome feature.

TextCellEditor is currently marked as not to be extended. Can this restriction be lifted, then?

The class itself even anticipates subclasses (see method dependsOnExternalFocusListener()).

I think we can remove the restriction - Tom, do you see any reason for not allowing subclassing?
