Description arne anka CLA 2008-08-20 09:09:36 EDT
sometimes tooltips (that yellow square) stubbornly overlap the right click menu, thus hiding the entries and they wont go away.
one needs to click somewhere else or move the pointer which make the menu go away as well.
i never dared to click the tooltip in the faint hope to hit the right menu entry, so i don't know if it is a graphic issue only.

don't know if 3.4 introduces it or if i never before noticed it.

Are you talking about the roll-over menu that appears without delay for items in tables and trees that are too long to display?
Comment 2 arne anka CLA 2008-09-02 06:12:49 EDT
i don't know what "roll-over menu" means -- but i see it in views and editors (java editor and the task list view frinst)

Could it be that those are not native menus but using ToolTip from JFace?

Sorry I meant "roll-over tooltip" - my bad. Does the tooltip appear immediately, or after a delay? Can you take a screenshot of what you mean? Is it a multi-line tooltip, or just one line?

i hover over an element and then the tooltip appears, multilined.
i tried to take a screenshot but got the impression that all keys are eaten somehow, at least my screenshot tool does not appear -- and moving the mouse to start it would make the situation disappear.

If you see this in Mylyn's task list and the Java editor, there are most likely two separate problems. Could you please file a new one against JDT UI. I will send this one to Mylyn for comment.

btw i still don't understand what a "roll-over tooltip" is (compared to hovering).

Not sure about Linux GTK, but if you open a Windows Explorer (the native app that allows you to browse folders and files on a Windows box), and configure it so that it shows a tree of folders on the left, you will get roll-over tooltips for items in that tree that are not fully visible without scrolling. Not sure if Microsoft calls it "roll-over tooltip", but it is yellow, has only one line, and shows up immediately when the mouse is over the item.
