The latest call of the SML specification will likely require support for bare-names in SML references. The spec will require support for XML schema determined IDs. i.e. The ability to reference an element based on the ID attribute declared in its schema. Here's the summary of the discussion thread: The SML spec currently forbids the use of bare-names in SML references. The WG has agreed to remove this restriction. Further, the group has agreed to require support for XML Schema determined IDs. We believe that this covers a majority of SML models. In addition, we have agreed to not forbid DTD-determined IDs. This also allows future versions of the SML specification to require the support if they so desire. We would like to keep that support application-defined for reasons described earlier.
