Description Martin D Simmonds CLA 2008-06-13 02:39:33 EDT
It was never agreed to make this the default. It should be changed back to the graph Response viewer (TABULAR). An option on deployment needs to allow the deployer to specify the default view.

Deferring to i12 since these bugs are not critical or blocking.
Comment 2 John Devine CLA 2008-06-25 16:53:41 EDT
Sheldon, do you agree with Martin re this ER? By deferring it to i12, I could infer agreement, but I'd like to double check.

Martin,

The original intention of the hierarchical view was to address usability issues of the tabular view. When presenting the design document, I did mention that it will be the default view. There are still many usability concerns with the tabular view (see http://wiki.eclipse.org/COSMOS_Design_224166#Purpose). I don't agree with making it the default view. We should discuss this with the broader community before you proceed with this change.
Comment 4 Martin D Simmonds CLA 2008-07-02 16:00:12 EDT
I agree that there are usability issues with the tabular view. It does however look at the graph response in a different way, and that way may be acceptable in some cases. I dont think that the tree viewer solves all usability issues. I think it is just another way to view the response, that some like better than the tabular view. I dont recall anyone saying that the treeviewer should be the default. Perhaps we can say this bug is mute if we process the other bug that allows the user/deployer of the COSMOSUI, to choose the default.

I agree with leaving the current behavior unchanged and only changing the default view once the user explicitly selects an alternative view.

Use case:

1) User performs a CMDBf query
2) User left clicks the query
3) The response is visualized using the hierarchical view
4) User right clicks and selects Open With > Tabular view
5) Any left click on a CMDBf query will result in the tabular view being opened as the default view.

I believe you are referring to bug 237009.

I had created another bug, which I cant find for the time being that stated that we should be able to set the default view in configuration.properties. That can default to the treeviewer when we distribute the COSMOSUI, but the user can set his/her own default pane here. Otherwise, you have to always do an "Open With" to set your default.

Moving bugs to i13 as discussed in DV call.
Comment 8 Sheldon Lee-Loy CLA 2008-08-07 12:24:25 EDT
Currently it is possible to allow the deployer to change the default view.

They simply have to change the content of COSMOSUI\views\detail\nav\queryCMDBf\view.jprop to the following:

{
   clazz:"org.eclipse.cosmos.provisional.dr.ps.components.widget.GraphResponseViewer",
   autoHeight:true,
   structure:[ {cells:
                 [ [ {name: 'Source', width: "33%"},
                     {name: 'Edge', width: "33%"},
                     {name: 'Target', width: "34%"}
                    ],
		           [ { name: 'Detail', colSpan: 5} ]
		         ]
	           }
	         ],
   initQueryHandler:"${baseServiceURL}json?service=org/eclipse/cosmos/internal/dr/drs/service/outputter/GraphResponseOutputter"
}

I'm closing this bug since it resolve the issue brought up by this bug.
