Description Patrick Schonbach CLA 2008-06-12 17:03:38 EDT
In 2.3, the following fields of the task form had default values (at least, when using Bugzilla):

- Resolved: "FIXED"
- Reassign to: <one's own email address>

Now, there are no defaults anymore. However, these defaults have been quite reasonable and very convenient and thus, should be restored. Especially, having to type one's own email address every time you assign yourself to a bug is a real pain.
Comment 1 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-06-12 17:24:07 EDT
Please see bug 236972 regarding the Resolved field. The change to the reassign field was intentional. We considered it to be more cumbersome to erase the pre-populated email address than using content assist to quickly enter a new email address. Have you tried that?

Rob, what do you think about sorting the current user to always be the first element in the content assist proposals? Additionally we could have a small "me" icon next to the reassing field that would enter the current users email address?

Ok, got iit.

Yes, this would be definitely helpful.

I like this idea of sorting the current user to the top since this would make it a Ctrl+SPACE+ENTER combination which is fairly fast.
Comment 4 Nick Boldt CLA 2009-02-11 14:46:12 EST
+1 for sorting self to the top. See also bug 264581 which would benefit from being able to apply the knowledge of the current user's email address to simplifying the workflow.

From bug 264581:

When creating a new Bugzilla task, I can CTRL-SPACE in the ?Assigned to:? field, which I only discovered today and which is frankly, teh axxesome.

And, I can "[x] Add self to CC"

However, I can?t ?[x] Take this bug? or ?[x] Assign to me?, which would be very handy.

add on hover affordance

The patch adds a little person icon that shows when hovering with the mouse. When the person is clicked the user id of the current user is inserted.

I just bootstrapped and was quite confused about the change. Besides weird looking double borders, the people icon seems to almost randomly appear/disappear.
Sometimes it seems easy to see it, drag the mouse there and click, but most of the times when I am almost there, it disappears.

Also, in a widescreen setup the field might be quite long, making it tricky to quickly move the mouse IN the textfield (since when you leave it, the icon disappears, which is annoying) towards the icon. {Almost like playing Space Quest and trying to manouver between those man-eating plant's tentacles}

Not sure if (besides the checkbox) an affordance is even needed, but I think the current implementation is not what I would want to see in an editor, from a visual and a behavioural point of view
Comment 11 Steffen Pingel CLA 2009-08-24 17:00:05 EDT
The double border is a Windows only problem. I have commited a fix that we weren't able to commit earlier because of outages at Eclipse.org. Please check if that improves the visual appearance and behavior. We can increase the timeout for hiding the icon if necessary.(In reply to comment #10)

Let's try to refine the current design to make it work properly across platforms. The enhancement is already queued for a UI review on Thursday.

I find myself frequently typing part of my bugzilla id and then using content assist to select it to reassign a bug to myself. The new icon makes reassigning a single click similar to the checkbox for adding yourself to the CC but it doesn't require another widget on the editor.

Reopening to address a problem where the background is not decorated properly when there is an incoming.
