Driver: wtp-sdk-S-3.0RC1-20080516071848 + pre-req's I'm looking at Help->Software Updates.... (screen shot attached) and it is very bloated with WTP (and other) features. The list of features goes on for pages. This is the wrong level of detail, I'd like to see just one entry for WTP.

I think Gary has a point ... seems like the Installed Software page should have at least the same or similar options as "available software" page ... group by categories, location, name? It's pretty unusable as it is.
Gary, this is M6. This has long been fixed in M7 and improved in RC1.
(In reply to comment #3) > Gary, this is M6. This has long been fixed in M7 and improved in RC1. > This is what I believed that I unzipped as part of "wtp-sdk-S-3.0RC1-20080516071848 + pre-req's" and AFAIK I was exactly following the instructions on the WTP driver page for what was then their most current driver. 04/29/2008 03:12 PM 25,962,082 dtp-sdk-1.6M6a.zip 05/16/2008 08:03 AM 156,324,506 eclipse-SDK-I20080515-2000-win32.zip 05/15/2008 08:16 AM 715,513 eclipse-test-framework-I20080513-2000.zip 05/15/2008 08:17 AM 4,505,808 emf-runtime-I200805121800.zip 05/15/2008 08:08 AM 6,720,146 GEF-SDK-I200805121830.zip 05/15/2008 08:16 AM 188,612 org.eclipse.releng.tools-I20080513-2000.zip 05/16/2008 08:01 AM 98,651,240 wtp-sdk-S-3.0RC1-20080516071848.zip 05/15/2008 08:07 AM 1,159,383 xsd-runtime-I200805121800.zip The WTP driver page is found here: http://build.eclipse.org/webtools/committers/
Bug 224472 discusses possibilities for improvement of this view. Such as showing the nested requirements, etc. I think filtering could help, too. >I think Gary has a point ... seems like the Installed Software page should have >at least the same or similar options as "available software" page ... group by >categories, location, name? We currently don't have an association between what's installed and where it originally came come, or what the producer's category for the item was. I'm not sure if this kind of information is useful, though I agree some kind of grouping or filtering is needed. There's even been discussion of user defined grouping. >This is the wrong level of detail, I'd like to see just one entry for WTP. This is controllable by the build for WTP. It is definitely a very large list and some simplification would help. David, does the WTP mark every single feature as a root in the build? For the SDK, we only mark "Eclipse SDK" rather than showing all of the individual components. I'm wondering if WTP should be doing something similar, like "EMF", "Data Tools platform", etc. Our current story is that the installed feature list is very high level, and if you want to know the detail, you go to the about dialog. In a future release we'll provide a middle ground (bug #224472).
