Running a clean install of the Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers Ganymede M7 package on a x86 Tiger Mac takes several minutes on the splash screen, until the workspace selection dialog appears. Also, the instalation behaves as a simple platform runtime instalation, since no one of the bundled plugins is detected. Also, no update site is pre-configured. I will be happy to comply with getting any further information that is found important to solve the problem.
The same applies to the Windows package.
Could you please check (and confirm) if this bug is the same as bug 231178? I.e. did you rename the 'eclipse' directory before starting eclipse for the first time?
I did rename it before launching the first time. Now I unpacked it again and did the first start without renaming. Looks much better. Afterwards I renamed it and still everything is OK. Thank you for this hint.

The directory was then moved to ~/Applications (not /Applications). Keeping the original name solves the timely startup, but the plugins are still not detected.

I'm half guessing, but it may not be re-discovering the way it needs to. (And, as you might guess, using this -clean will once again take a long(er) time to startup, so you wouldn't want to always use it, but using it once would help it clear anything it was incorrectly remembering.

The same applies to Linux 64bit package if root directory name is not 'eclipse'

Yes, it was a fresh start (removed .metadata workspace folder, unpacked and re-copied the eclipse folder to ~/Applications). It was quicker starting up, and there was a noticible diference: while in the first case the splash screen stayed on with negligible CPU usage, now it shows noticeable usage.

It also behaves as described below on 32-bit Linux. Same on 32-bit Windows SP3
I'm 99% sure this will be fixed along with fixing bug 231178. Please verify once the RC1 version is available.
