Description Simon Kaegi CLA 2008-04-29 13:57:18 EDT
After installing and uninstalling tptp_min I have 8 new update sites added to my list of sites. The next time I try to install from the ui it takes a really long time because we have to first generate metadata and artifact repos for all sites as part of the install. We might want to provide some feedback here or possibly filter out the associate site until explicitly added.

Just to clarify the terminology, I suspect these are "feature update sites" rather than associate sites. These are the update URLs listed in feature.xml that specify what site should be used to update that particular feature. Features can also specify discovery sites, but we disable these by default and it shouldn't be generating metadata for them until they are enabled from the "Manage Site" dialog.

Yep. You're right nothing to do with assiciate sites just "feature update sites". I also noticed that I didn't actually need to install anything for these sites to be added. Today I just added tptp_min as an extension location repository (not under dropins) and ran into a huge wait when I then added another repository. I had thought I was hung adding the other repository but apparently was just waiting for the "feature update" repos to finish getting added.

Yes, we don't reproduce exactly the same behaviour as UM where the repositories being added was tied to installation of the feature. We just add all the repositories when the site is first loaded.
