We need a graphic to promote Ganymede. Any suggestions or ideas are welcomed.
I have an idea, but no graphic talents. Apparently Ganymede the moon is the only satellite in the solar system with a magnetosphere, so maybe a moon graphic with magnetic field lines around it. See http://tinyurl.com/4nyycn for a picture of field lines, as an example. Ganymede from mythology was cupbearer to the gods, so a beer mug cheersing an Eclipse logo could also work.

+1 I like the design. If no one else has objections or comments I suggest we go with this. We would need a version for pre-release day and another version for post release day. For the pre-release version, how about the wording 'Ganymede is coming' 'Try out the milestones today' For the post-release version, 'Ganymede is here - Download now' Nathan, can you also comment on the size of the graphics. I think we need a square one for the right column and then a banner for across the web page. We should think of adding it to the css like we did for EclipseCon.
+1
First off, +1 on this design looks great! > Nathan, can you also comment on the size of the graphics. I think we need a > square one for the right column and then a banner for across the web page. We > should think of adding it to the css like we did for EclipseCon. > The size we use on the homepage / downloads page is 125x125px. As for a banner size[1] we used a 600x121px image. I'd think that as long as were close to the 120px height it will work well with the rest of the site. Do you have this in a PSD or AI file Roger? [1]http://www.eclipse.org/europa/
Adding Gen to cc:
How about something a little more interesting... like a series of movie posters for the various EPP packages, extolling their virtues? Could either go retro [1, 2, 3] or grindhouse [4] style, depending on how risque you wanted to go... Any interest?

I still think we need a general Ganymede graphic but maybe we also have cool movie posters to promote each project? I wonder if someone like Ian Bull could help with Photoshop? He seems to do some good work for PlanetEclipse headshots?
> I think this would be a cool idea. I still think we need a general Ganymede > graphic but maybe we also have cool movie posters to promote each project? I've put up some first stabs at this idea on my blog: http://divby0.blogspot.com/2008/05/ganymede-poster-contest.html If anyone wants to brainstorm some ideas, let me know. Should we try to do each poster as a series (one variation per EPP package)? Or should each package get its own poster?

Oops... I thought the idea was to create posters, and not *movie* posters..!
(In reply to comment #12) > Lord Of The Rings Love it. :) (In reply to comment #13) > Sunshine Might revise the copy a little here, but I love the direction. "From the director ..." --> "From the foundation that brought you last summer's bitbuster hit Europa" ? "If the sun dies..." --> "If Sun dies, there's always Apache." (or something like that?) Would it be reasonable to use Planet Eclipse blogger heads on these posters in place of actors? (In reply to comment #15) > Oops... I thought the idea was to create posters, and not *movie* posters..! The idea is to market Eclipse. The movie poster parody was just one idea -- wartime propaganda poster / postage stamp parodies like the Uncle Sam one work great too. http://www.usps.com/images/stamps/99/women_support.htm http://www.usps.com/images/stamps/ctc_txt.htm http://data4.collectionscanada.ca/netacgi/nph-brs?s1=(war+bonds.ANYP.)+Or+(war+bonds.ANYI.+And+null.B742.)&l=20&d=STMP&p=1&u=http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/02011702_e.html&r=1&f=G&Sect1=STMP http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/020117/020117030109_e.html etc.

Also, "on mirrors" is prolly better than "in mirrors." ---- > Lost in Translation While I love the sentiment here, I'm not sure that "lost" is the right idea. Perhaps... Once Was Lost In Translation But Now Am Found (bonus points if you can work in "was blind but now I see" somewhere into the poster's small print.) ;) Or simpler... Found In Translation ---- > Enchanted Nice work on the Disney fonts. Could the moon be more Eclipse'y, eg, with horizontal stripes a la http://www.eclipse.org/artwork/ ? Can you rework the footer text too, so that it's Ganymede specific? ECLIPSE IS YOU PICTURES presents GANYMEDE An Eclipse Foundation Entertainment production (starring) Birt Buckminster Cedie Tee Dell Teekay D. S. Depuis Day Tatoules Easy F E. Clips Mo Delling My Lin Richard A. Jacks Sue Atolls Sue Bversive Tip Tappers [0] Will "Dubya" Teepee Should this poster (and any others?) have perhaps an "R" rating, for "Release", with this modified version of the standard disclaimer [1] ? "Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian." --> "Under Eclipse is required an accompanying Java SDK or runtime." Or, instead of 'contains scenes of violence', etc. -- "May improve performance" / "Contains performance enhancing features" ?? > 300 Though the 300 parody is crazy-overdone by now (insert obligatory sound bites: "This... is... Gany!" / "Tonight... we code... some Java!!!"), this gives me an idea others can reuse. "In theatres everywhere" or "In theatres and IMAX" ==> "On desktops and laps" or "On PCs and Macs", etc.
My favourites: - Wall E - Enchanted/Gan ee meed (Love the Disney theme) - Lost In Translation (only for the purpose of Babel though) I'm guessing we (eclipse.org) can't actually use modified movie posters without hitting any huge legal ramifications.

+1 for https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=103023
(In reply to comment #36) > +1 for https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=103023 I like this one too. Maybe we could have a set of variants with text such as: "Objects on mirrors are closer than they appear." "Downloads on mirrors are closer than they appear." "Downloads for Friends are closer than they appear." "Fee, fi, FOE, fum. Well, that was fast -- my download's done!" etc. http://dza.colorado.edu/~class/Phys4510/Notes/Convex%20Mirror.htm http://www.physlink.com/education/askexperts/ae449.cfm http://www.andertoons.com/img/cartoons/4304.jpg http://images.google.com/images?q=objects%20in%20mirror%20are%20closer%20than%20they%20appear&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&rls=org.debian:en-US:unofficial&client=iceweasel-a&um=1&sa=N&tab=wi These could run as banner ads on the Eclipse site to encourage becoming a Friend or FOE (http://www.eclipse.org/donate/).

Created attachment 104049 [details] Ganymede moon variants + Gimp file > +1 for https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=103023 Thank you guys. Actually my original file got corrupted, so I recreated it and prepared different versions as suggested by Nick. As you may notice I wasn't quite sure how to lay out the last phrase :D I must say I still prefer my original phrase best :P The zip file includes also a Gimp file for you to play with (it's 1440x1150). I'm still not sure about the copyright thing. I could try to contact image author, but I'm not sure about the scope in which the image would be used either. For now I just left the original credits in the upper left corner. I might later experiment adding a rear-view mirror into the image.

Created attachment 105324 [details] Sin City poster reworked Inspired from the movie poster idea I just wanted to make "ganymedezised" posters of two of my favorite films. Maybe they can not be really used, but It was such a fun and pleasure for me that I would like to share them.

Is that intentional?

Is that intentional? > The picture is a poster of the film Sin City. A great fill from Frank Miller with Bruce Willis. Bruce Willis fight them all the somehow "killed them all". It was a very "dark" film. "dark" like during an "eclipse of the sun" :)
(In reply to comment #55) > Kill Bill > Sin City You might want "3rd" instead of "3th"; also I'm not sure that "pussywagon" exactly conveys the sentiment we're looking for here. On attachment 105327 [details], if you're going to play up the 3rd release aspect, you might erase one of vertical smear lines so it's a III instead of IIII. I'd also add some more text around release dates or what's in the release. Minimalism is great, but perhaps too subtle.

Hope I will find one. I have not seen the "IIII" and that it should be replaced with "III". Thank you. I will update the picture.
Created attachment 105349 [details] Kill Bill1 reworked I have removed the "pussywagon" and replaced it with WITH WTP 3.0". I have also changed "3th" to "3rd" Really silly mistake :)
Created attachment 105350 [details] Kill Bill 3 I have reworked the 3 poster and replaced the "IIII" with "III". Again changing "3th" to "3rd".

Nick, for Ganymede moon poster, would it be possible to include my original variant ("Some things are closer than you might imagine") too or instead of the one you proposed? As said in comment #39, I like it more, so maybe others will too :)
The 2nd moon poster has been added.
As posters are now in rotation on http://www.eclipse.org/ (right side, under the 'Ganymede is here' banner), I suppose we can close this bug.
