We have had a considerable number of requests for this facility. Mylyn should provide the common UI, and connectors can specify the mechanism for synching with the repository.
We may need to see this in a more abstract sense, i.e. what do we want to use time information for? As originally envisioned with Mylar: - assist the developer in planning his schedule - scheduling per se Further enhancements: - integration with non-task schedule information , for example Google calendar or iCal server. . you can't work on a task when you're in a meeting... - reporting, either from Mylyn itself or via the issue tracker used - Reporting/Billing/Accounting outside issue trackers . preferably aggregated per product/customer - more advanced project management tools, that may be built on top of Mylyn . see the calendar/gantt chart view in alpha, schedule by dragging to a calendar view . also think about the opportunities when combining timing info, task dependency info and task assignment (resource) info lets kill MS project! - Learning see whether the developer is generally pessimistic/optimistic or always spot on in his time estimates
We ran out of time designing the API for this. Need to reconsider for a later milestone.
Consider implementing this for the Trac Connector for the TimeAndEstimation plugin (http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/TimingAndEstimationPlugin.) This works by supplying the delta to a "Add hours" custom field.

Maybe this is worth another dependent sub-task as for Bugzilla or XPlanner. Mylyn just gave me notice about these sub-tasks.
Any additional automation for time tracking of this sort is currently out of scope. The concern is that if we don't provide a lot of additional UI in the form of reporting and controlling any activity capture, it will be too easy to misuse such activity in a way that causes privacy concerns. Since the reporting UI is such a big task on it's own, and because it's already provided by commercial extensions such as Tasktop, without additional resources it will need to remain out of the scope of Mylyn.
