After a successful installation, the profile is not refreshed.

I assume this is in the admin UI? I just tried this in 20071204 build and it seemed ok. I.e., after I perform an install, I can see the newly installed items in the profiles view. Please clarify if you mean something different...

Things are changing pretty dramatically in this area anyway (see bug #208251) so we should recheck this scenario after we sort out that space...

Even if we see this bug fixed, I'd like to leave it open post-M4 because I made some changes in the UI listeners to brute force refresh the profile view when any profile changes, and I'd like to go back to trying to refresh only the profile in question....

Indeed. I just tried doing an install with the I20071207-1200 build, and the profile view was *not* updated after an install. Looks like it's broken again.

Disregard my comment #4. The problem this time is that the profile roots were not being persisted due to recent Engine changes, so in the profile view was not showing any IUs in the profile.

This was working in M4, but with a brute force "refresh all" on any profile change.  Now that bug # 214391 is fixed, I was able to go back to the old style of refreshing just the profile that changed.
Fixed in HEAD >20080109
