Steffen, just FYI. I've intentionally disabled description editing, because description text was unreadable with editor enabled. We need to address adaptive size for editor widgets first. See bug 203670
Comment 2 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2007-11-15 14:06:49 EST
To clarify, by "unreadable" I meant that it wasn't showing full text for the description and text editor widget had own scroll bar.

Not sure why it been assigned to me. I just explained why things are where they are.
Comment 4 Steffen Pingel CLA 2007-11-19 14:12:57 EST
I assigned it to you since you are a committer on the project and seem to have a great insight on what is required to resolve this report.

Editable descriptions are supported for Trac and there have not been any reports about unreadable descriptions. I am leaning towards re-enabling editing support.
Comment 5 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2007-11-19 15:20:17 EST
Steffen, unfortunately my committer status don't cover core task editor UI and I believe the root of the issue is in there. Also, I don't have experience with Trac editor, but based on my daily use of several JIRA issue trackers, I see number of issues that have only few lines in description, but many others have good 30..50 lines detailed description. So, there isn't really a middle ground in regard to how many rows to show in the editable description field, because it will either take too much screen estate, or won't show the entire description. In my opinion, the latter is much worse then not allow to edit description text.

So, until bug 203670 is resolved I'd recommend to leave it uneditable and use web UI as a workaround.
Comment 6 Steffen Pingel CLA 2007-11-26 15:53:12 EST
I have re-enabled editing of descriptions. Note: sizing issues with editable text fields in the editor are also discussed on bug 199676.

Eugene, please provide a link to an issue that demonstrates the layout issues you were experiencing.

layout issues

Here is an illustration of at least two layout issues:

- huge empty area
- cursor in the description text field is outside of visible area (basically you can change text there without noticing it)
Comment 9 Mik Kersten CLA 2007-11-26 21:18:27 EST
Steffen: regarding the whitespace in the layout note that Shawn was having a similar layout problem (manifested on 3.4 only). I think it was two composites claiming FILL_BOTH, but you can follow up with him to get the details.
Comment 10 Steffen Pingel CLA 2007-11-26 21:27:29 EST
This turned out to be more tricky to fix. The bug is related to size calculation of the StyledText widget in combination with text wrapping. I have committed a fix (patch is attached to bug 142084).
