Description Kim Horne CLA 2007-10-17 08:38:35 EDT
I cannot start this build on OS X. It immediately dies with VM error -1. There is no log file spit out to the configuration directory.

Launching with :

java -XstartOnFirstThread -Dfile.encoding=MacRoman -classpath /Users/kim/Desktop/eclipse/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.100.v20071015.jar org.eclipse.equinox.launcher.Main -launcher /Users/kim/Desktop/eclipse/Eclipse.app/Contents/Resources/Splash.app/Contents/MacOS/eclipse -name Eclipse -showsplash 600 -product org.eclipse.sdk.ide -os macosx -ws carbon -arch x86 -nl en_US

works fine so I assume this is a problem with the launcher.

Andrew, can you take a look. We may need a rebuild.

Problem is revealed by the changes for bug 205990 which turned off an option to ignore unrecognized vm args.

We have not yet been able to identify what the problem arguments are and so have turned ignoreUnrecognized back on for the Mac until we can identify the real problem.

This does not seem to be an issue for any other platform.
(We did a quick test on win32.win32.x86, gtk.linux.x86, gtk.linux.x86_64, gtk.solaris.sparc and motif.aix.ppc)

Marking this as fixed, bug 205990 will track the fate of ignoreUnrecognized on the mac.

based on trying to run with the command line debugger I'm guessing the problem is the dock icon arg. I have this in my console when I launch from the command line:

./eclipse -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8787,server=y,suspend=y -XstartOnFirstThread
Unrecognized option: -Xdock:icon=../Resources/Eclipse.icns

I thought I resolved this yesterday. Kim has confirmed build I20071017-1638 is launchable.
