Description Karsten Silz CLA 2007-10-11 17:48:35 EDT
We use JIRA 3.10-#260, running on OpenSuse 10.2, host set to GMT as the time zone. Now I have an issue which I open with the built-in rich text editor of Mylyn. I try to re-assign it to myself, but this fails with an error message:

You did not enter a valid date. Please enter the date in the format "yyyy-MM-dd", eg. "2007-10-11"

Editing of the issue fails as well. Of course, I can edit the issue in the web client.

Error message I got.
Comment 2 Karsten Silz CLA 2007-10-11 17:50:33 EDT
I also saved the .log file if that is of any help.
Comment 3 Karsten Silz CLA 2007-10-11 17:52:48 EDT
Once I assigned the issue to myself, I could then do "Start Progress" in the rich text editor.
Comment 4 Mik Kersten CLA 2007-10-11 18:55:30 EDT
Steffen: have you seen this before?
Comment 5 Steffen Pingel CLA 2007-10-11 19:01:47 EDT
I'll try to reproduce on the test server.
Comment 6 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2007-10-11 20:07:38 EDT
Karsten, what Mylyn version and what version of the JIRA connector you are running?
Can you also attach screenshots from your JIRA web UI with pages shown for "edit" and "resolve" actions.

Version numbers of Mylyn components

I use the latest version of Mylyn since I just set it up a couple of days ago (with Eclipse 3.3.1). I also have MyEclipse 6.0 running as a plug-in, and Adobe Flex Builder 3 beta 2 (though disabled at the moment).
Comment 8 Karsten Silz CLA 2007-10-12 09:29:07 EDT
I could set the issue to "Resolve - Fixed" in Eclipse while providing a comment and attaching the context to it; that worked fine. However, when I then tried to update a custom field on it (a text field for setting the QA person), I got the "date window" again.
Comment 9 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2007-10-12 12:41:10 EDT
Karsten, can you please save web pages for "edit" and "resolve" actions as html? You can open them in the web browser on your jira web ui. The url for "edit" page should have /secure/EditIssue.

Steffen, we are currently using "EditIssue" handler for "assign" action. Maybe it should be changed to use "AssignIssue"

Comment 11 Karsten Silz CLA 2007-10-12 17:48:19 EDT
Of course, it must be because I have different date / time formats configured in JIRA!

The Mylyn date / time configuration on our server
Comment 13 Eric Miles CLA 2008-01-28 09:40:28 EST
I think we're having a similar problem. We have customized our date style in Jira and when I added a due date from the Jira Web UI, I can NOT edit that issue in Mylyn. I was merely trying to perform a Jira transition and I received the exact same "invalid date format" message. When I went back into Jira and removed the due date from the issue, I could perform the transition in Mylyn.

We are running Jira Professional Edition, Version: 3.10.1-#261. Our complete day/time format is MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm a.

For eclipse, I am running

Version: 3.3.1.1
Build id: M20071023-1652

Mylyn I'm using is 2.1.0v20070927-0900 and the jira connector is 2.1.1v20071119-1800.

Comment 14 Kenan YAZICI CLA 2008-02-23 12:36:25 EST
I also had the same problem , but with a slight difference. I did not change the date format of the JIRA, but I am using different language(Turkish) on JIRA. The problem was occuring when I tried to submit a comment on a issue on Mylyn. It was saying "Invalid date format please enter "dd/MMM/yy" like "22/Feb/08" (I am not sure if it was completely like this, because I am not getting any more). Of course JIRA was sending the message in Turkish and the date was like "22/Sub/08".(as February=Subat in Turkish). So I found out that it was related with the language (that did not require much IQ, but 10 minutes), when I changed the language setting of JIRA to English and finally sent a comment on a issue through Myln to JIRA succesfully. So, I decided to change the language setting of Eclipse to Turkish, but I could not find the language pack for version 3.3 and I have installed the 3.2 version. Now I can use Mylyn without any problem.

I hope this will help other people that are having the same problem.

But, when I read the comments here and ran across the babel project, I decided to allocate some of my time to help translate Mylyn and Eclipse. So is there anyone who can help me with this. Where should I start?
Comment 15 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2008-02-23 13:07:39 EST
Kenan, unfortunately Mylyn don't have text resources externalized for translation and it is not internationalizable at the moment. Please watch and voter on bug 215116.
Comment 16 Kenan YAZICI CLA 2008-02-23 13:59:14 EST
Eugene,
Thank you for your concern. I voted and will wait for it to be opened.
Comment 17 Sameer Nambiar CLA 2008-04-05 08:33:57 EDT
We are facing the same issue while trying to update/save an issue through Mylyn/Eclipse.

Error Message:
You did not enter a valid date. Please enter the date in the format "d-MMM-yy", eg. "5-Apr-08"fields.validation.data.format

We have a custom field configured for issues of type "date picker". I get the "invalid date format" message window regardless of whether there is content in the custom field or not (and whether I modify the field or not)

JIRA version: (Professional Edition, Version: 3.4.1-#107)
JIRA Day/Month/Year Format dd/MMM/yy 05/Apr/08
JIRA Date Picker Format (javascript format) d-MMM-yy (%e-%b-%Y) 5-Apr-08

Eclipse Version: 3.3.2
Eclipse Build id: M20080221-1800

Mylyn I'm using is 2.3.2.v20080402-2100 and the jira connector is
2.3.2.v20080402-2100

An observation: The custom field shows content in format "Sat, 5 Apr 2008 00:00:00 +0530 (IST)" even though the format configured in JIRA is "dd/MMM/yy"
Comment 18 Artur Szeja CLA 2008-04-06 06:02:08 EDT
We also have that same problem with invalid date format on custom field. Will it be fixed? I see this bug have more than 5 months!
Comment 19 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-04-14 19:50:03 EDT
I have scheduled the bug for for the next milestone and raised the priority. In order to address this a configuration option may need to added in the repository settings dialog for setting a customized date format.

BTW, you may as well add option to set day and week lenghts...
Comment 21 Thomas CLA 2008-06-27 04:34:29 EDT
We have the same problem. Our Jira uses "german style" date and time format and so I cannot commit anything to it from Mylyn.

For us, this issue has very high priority, we cannot use Mylyn because of this. Please make the date time format customizable as soon as possible. Thank you
Comment 22 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-06-27 12:52:35 EDT
Yes, this bug has a high priority. It is currently scheduled for the 3.0.1 release which expected to be released in July.
Comment 23 Steffen Pingel CLA 2008-07-11 22:27:33 EDT
Setting for the date format, date time format and locale have been added to the JIRA repository settings page. These need to match the Date (Time) Picker Format values displayed in the JIRA server settings under Administration > Look and Feel > Date/Time Formats. Making use of these settings to enable editing of date and time fields is tracked on bug 217938.
