It is now redundant with the changes done for bug 193423. Users were informed of this change in the New & Noteworthy for 2.1 and nobody complained, but let's hold off until 2.2 for removing the change.
I didn't know you call me nobody now. I've been complaining all the time. :-)
Sorry, that's not what I meant. I always exclude the list of committers when I speak about users because committers are a fundamentally different group. Are you proposing that we leave and have the redundant UI, or that we postpone removing it until we iterate further on the Search-based UI, or... ?
(In reply to comment #2) > Are you proposing that we leave and have the redundant UI, or that we postpone > removing it until we iterate further on the Search-based UI, or... ? Personally I think Ctrl-H dialog is too cluttered for the sake of opening task by id/key. I also don't think this feature and UI change been advertised enough if at all explicitly advertised beyond those folks who been cc'ed on the corresponding bug reports. So, I would suggest to leave old UI for now and request feedback from the community as well as from members of the UI working group after 2.1 release. I was also thinking to blog about it, but wasn't sure if you'd welcome that.
I personally believe that open bug by ID (or rather by url) is very useful. One of the examples is a bugday or starting work on a given project. It often happens when I want to invest some time in some project I choose a set of plugins I want to take deeper insight later. this bug are usually not assigned to me so there is a small chance to generate useful bugzilla query. If I can suggest something about this option: please make it more visible. Im thinking about a popup menu action and/or ctrl+v bug link from clipboard.
Bartosz: you're not the only one, we have a lot of evidence that opening a bug by ID is an important use case. We've tried to streamline it as much as we can, keeping in mind that it is typical to want to first see if the Task you are interested in is already in your Task List. Could you please take a look at the following: http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Mylyn_User_Guide#Opening_a_Repository_Task And comment on ideas on how we could make this more visible/discoverable or easy to use, that would be great. Note that this new UI evolved partly because the Open Repository Task dialog was not discoverable enough, and users expected it to be in the Search dialog, and wanted to see some kind of affordance when they could not find the task in their Task List.
but there is no "Ideas" section and I don't want to spoil the user guide for user structure.
Sorry, I was unclear, I meant comment on this bug with your ideas.
Let's leave this for now.
Improvements for quickly adding repository tasks are now tracked on bug 257416.
Let's leave it as is since there seems to be little value in changing it.
