Modified language file without the copy of

Build ID: 3.3.0 - I20070625-1500

Steps To Reproduce:
1. Copy a file (CTRL+C) in Package Explorer.
2. Paste (CTRL+V).
3. The prompt for the new name (great idea) is pre-filled with "Copy of [name of file]" (copy of is a bad idea).

The "Copy of" is annoying - I always have to delete it. Who wants a file named "Copy of"? Maybe in very rare scenario?

I suggest that this be removed.

Yeah, it would be much better if instead it were XxxCopy by default. That way, in any kind of alphabetical listing, it's more likely to be next to it than anything else. Plus, as the suffix, it's easier to delete when people don't want it.

Alex.

There are currently no plans to address this.
Comment 3 Tod Creasey CLA 2007-08-20 16:33:33 EDT
marking WONTFIX
Comment 4 Alex Blewitt CLA 2007-08-20 17:11:07 EDT
Is this closed WONTFIX because it will never be fixed, or because you don't have time to fix it? If it's the latter, why not leave it open so that someone can create a patch?
Comment 5 Etienne Lacombe CLA 2007-08-20 18:57:41 EDT
With a hint, I'm sure I could make a patch.. My earlier attempt does not seem to work.
Comment 6 Tod Creasey CLA 2007-08-21 07:24:27 EDT
I would mark it helpwanted if I was after a patch.

if there is strong enough consensus over a change (i.e. a high number of votes) we could just change it. But making changes to long standing functionality requires more consensus than we have on this.

Reopening as per bug 151668 comment 4.

The prefix is indeed bad. We should just append "2" to the existing name, unless the name already ends in a number. In that case, we should increment the number by 1 until the resulting name is available.

I didn't look at the attached file, but it's useless since it's not a patch.

Yves, could you provide a patch that does the same as the final fix for bug 151668 in the Navigator and Project Explorer views as well?

The change probably goes to CopyFilesAndFoldersOperation#getAutoNewNameFor(IPath, IWorkspace)

Yves is no longer working on this. Fixed with http://git.eclipse.org/c/platform/eclipse.platform.ui.git/commit/?id=e3b23a28cbe9d26020d07acd778e2dc2c4d84fe6
