Description Robert Elves CLA 2007-07-10 20:20:55 EDT
I find the current mechanism for creating synchronizations frustrating at times. Selection of resources to synchronize can be tricky especially when you have many projects, and some closed. Often times I get a resource in the selection that causes the Team > Synchronize action to be disabled. Since I've already made these selections as part of my Task/Resource working set management, it would would be convenient if these automatically became my synchronization sets, or perhaps one 'All' synchronization that includes all resources from my configured working sets.

There is "new sync / working set" option already. Can you clarify what you suggesting?

There is also bug 163479 about making sync view dynamically reflect current window working set.

This may be a duplicate of bug 163479, or an extension. I'm just trying to address the problem of -creation- of the synchronizations. If there were a automatic synchronization for each working set combine that with the view switching based on current working set that would be ideal. Perhaps auto synch creation from working sets is available and I'm just not aware of this feature?

There is no automatic creation. You have to select one or more working sets when creating new Synchronization. I've heard complains from non-Eclipse users that user interaction with the Synchronization view isn't exactly obvious. But the trouble with automatic creation is that Synchronization set is quite expensive to create, but maybe you are into something.

Yeah, if you could incrementally add/remove from the the synchronization behind the scenes as you add/remove resources to your working sets I think this would make for an intuitive result in the synchronize view and would be a lot less overhead. At this point I'm not sure if this is practical or not since I haven't looked into how synchronizations are built up.

Mylyn has been restructured, and our issue tracking has moved to GitHub [1].

We are closing ~14K Bugzilla issues to give the new team a fresh start. If you feel that this issue is still relevant, please create a new one on GitHub.
