1. Right-click on file.
2. Select "Open With..:Other.."

Dialog allows one to select any editor to open with, but in order to make a permanent change to default you need to go to burried preferences item. 

Suggest that a check box be provided (see e.g. Mac OS Finder) that when selected sets this default as well. (It might also make sense to add a radio selector for "recommend editors" mirroring menu choices.

I agree, a checkbox like that would be great.  "Open With>Other..." was contributed by someone in the community, and this enhancement would be another good candidate for community involvement.
