It would be nice to have branded banners for the non-www websites so that, although they have an identical look & feel to www, they can have a distinct piece of visual differenciation. I suggest the banner look and feel (chequered purple, its size and the location of search & links) be non-modifiable, but that either a) the eclipse logo or b) a graphic placed next to the logo be set by the site admin.
I like the idea. However, it would require that we provide easy to modify template ("blank") logos with just the background.
I think this is the right way to go, but i don't think the search and links need to be locked in. Different sites (wiki, EPIC (soon), and Live will all have different things that need to be in the header that provide valuable real estate. I think the search section should be in there but doesnt have to be exactly the same.

I've attached two images to this bug, one is for planet Eclipse and another for EPIC. Overall this banners are designed to make each of the Eclipse websites look similar. The three buttons on the right will allow us to place navigation between our different sites in the header of each page with out being overly intrusive. Any feedback is appreciated.
I like 'em.

I've posted three more banners Wiki, Bugs, and EclipseCon. Any thoughts? I'm going to start working on making some mockups of how these will look on phoenix.
I like them too. Nice work Nathan.
The banners are all in, and all we need to do is apply them to all our sites. www: nate: done bugs: denis: in progress wiki: matt: to do dev: denis: to do planet: planetadmins: to do live: nate: done epic: nate: done econ: bjorn? to do ipzilla: denis to do build: denis to do

I'd like to request that the IPZilla banner be deployed in the same fashion as the Bugs banner has been deployed; ie, phoenix-style purple banner only, with the three icons on the right, but *not* the phoenix-style "menu bar". Bugzilla (and IPZilla) already have functional header/menubars that add more value than the phoenix-style menubar. Thoughts?

On a side note did we want to update the footer for www.eclipse.org to match live.eclipse.org / www.eclipseplugincentral.com ?

I've updated Phoenix.eclipse.org with the new footer. http://phoenix.eclipse.org/homepage/

Status: planet: planetadmins: to do econ: bjorn? to do blogs: denis which banner do I use for the blog site? Bjorn, do you have an ETA on getting the new banner up? Ian, which banner should be used for the blogs site? Wayne, since the blogs site is belong to you, do you want to put up the new banner? Gunnar, what can I do to help you get the new banner up on Planet?
Ian, and I spoke a week or two ago about the blogs site, and we came to consensus that it should look just like www.eclipse.org. I'm willing to lend Wayne a hand with the banner, as its been on my (low priority) task list.
(In reply to comment #26) > planet: planetadmins: to do > econ: bjorn? to do > Bjorn, do you have an ETA on getting the new banner up? Actually, I'm pretty happy with the revised EC 2008 banner that James created based on the eclipse.org banner but it's not the officially identical banner that the other graphic artist created (the one attached to this bug). Ian, do you think we should use the more official one or is the similar-but-not-official one good enough for branding?
> Ian, do you think we should use the more official one or is the > similar-but-not-official one good enough for branding? Well, we started the entire exercise of the branded banners because we all agreed that we wanted the different Foundation web sites to look more a like. At least that is how I remember it? So if that is still the goal then I think you should switch over to the new banner and add the icons. I don't really see this as one being better than the other. I agree the existing one you have is nice but we don't get the consistency that I think we all wanted to achieve.
(In reply to comment #29) > you should switch over to the new banner and add the icons. Assigning to Anne (EclipseCon project manager) to make it happen.
Ian/Nathan: The EclipseCon banner needs the dates changed to read "March 17-20". Could I please get an updated file with the new dates? Thanks.

Nathan, do you have the photoshop versions of the banners? If so, can you update it please.
I have a PSD of the EclipseCon site but its not at all the same. I can attach the PSD file to the bug if you'd like.
Nathan, I'm not sure what you mean here about the PSD of the EclipseCon banner not being at all the same? If we're going to change the EclipseCon site to use the new style banner, I would need a file that looks like what we want to have.
Sorry i was confused as to what you wanted. I'll attach a PSD file and JPG with the updated date.

Folks, I'd really like to wrap this one up before the year's end... planet: planet-new doesn't work on MSIE 6. EclipseCon: Anne, Nate attached a banner with the correct dates now. blogs: we'll use the www banner. Wayne/Nate, any love for this?
(In reply to comment #39) > EclipseCon: Anne, Nate attached a banner with the correct dates now. I have decided not to change the EC 2008 banner now because the banner is tightly integrated with the rest of the site design and we don't have the bandwidth to rework all the icons, the header menu, and the rest of the design. It's on the queue, but it won't happen in 2008. Sorry.
Yes, Nathan did send the updated banner (thanks, Nathan). We tried it out to see how it looked and it didn't look so great with the way this year's site is designed. We will implement this for next year--hope that is OK with everyone. --AJ
(In reply to comment #39) > planet: planet-new doesn't work on MSIE 6. I've removed the problematic JavaScript a while ago and asked for a re-test. Should work now.
Oh, I tried on MSIE 6 and I still only get the banner + right bar with the subscription list. No actual content.
planet: planetadmins: Yay, done econ: bjorn? As-is The only banner left is: blogs: denis which banner do I use for the blog site? I'll try my best to give the blogs site some love this week so we can finally close this.
