Description Adam Cabler CLA 2007-03-19 14:24:14 EDT
I just did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate (got all available updates), installed java 6 sdk and unzipped a clean eclipse. When trying to invoke Eclipse, the .exe immediately fails because of a missing mscvr71.dll. After searching, it appears that the new model from MS requires dependent apps to ship this file with the exe. Copying the dll from JAVA_HOME to the same dir as eclipse.exe fixed the problem.

Here is a related bug filed against java (marked not a bug): http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6509291

I'm marking this as major since this will mean some users [customers] won't easily be able to use eclipse if this isn't fixed.

Eclipse itself does not depend on this dll. The dependency comes from the Java VM. The launcher was changed to add the java's jre/bin to the search path so that the mscvr71.dll shipped with the jre should be found. Please try a build I20070319-1005 or newer.
