I have successfully started the AC on Linux_ia32 this morning. I have seen the error you report below when there are background java processes and/or another instance of the AC running in the background. Ensure you look for and end these processes before starting the AC.
Liz, Your work around worked for me. Thanks
Reducing severity as there is a workaround of killing the outstanding java processes. Leaving this open because a better error message is required when this problem occurs so the user knows what to do to resolve it.
I could not start RAC on linux IA32. I killed the previously running ACServer and all the java processes. Also tried changing with sun java 1.5. I get the same error as in the description.

Asking me to kill java processes is definitely not a solution it is just a temporary....

(In reply to comment #3) > Liz, > Your work around worked for me. Thanks Rohit, is the reason of the problem was previously launched AC? Do you still have the problem with AC launching?
previously launched AC? If your question is whether i had an agent controller running when i tried to start this, the answer is no. But i think it is a previously launched AC that is the cause of the java processes being left behind. It seems like the RAStop does not stop the java processes that are created by the ac. and when i try to start AC again these processes create a problem.
(In reply to comment #9) > It seems like the RAStop does not stop the java > processes that are created by the ac. and when i try to start AC again these > processes create a problem. Yes, RAStop script has this defect (bug #173504), patch is submitted and waiting for committment.
