If I schedule something for next week, and activate the workweek mode on Sunday, I don't see my next week's scheduled tasks. Apparently, Mylar considers a week begins on Monday. Generally, PIN applications have an option to set if the week begins on Monday or on Sunday. Mylar should be able to configure it too.
Seeing the tasks scheduled for next week will come from the date range mode for the Task List (bug 147084). So I don't think we should let that use case be the driver. Could you point to some PIM apps that support Sunday-based weeks? Microsoft Outlook allows the week to start on any day, but their notion of a week start is the first day that a calendar should show on a grid view, not our notion of the day that you start working on tasks. That said, we should definitely consider this kind of conrigurability, since it is currently hard-coded.

Open Workbench, a MS Project-like planning software, let me configure it too. Yes, they use it primarily for calendar display. But I think we can incorporate this notion for how task list (and its models/filters) handle week start.
Changing the summary to reflect better the idea.
+1 for starting week on any day. We can make these sorts of things configurable as long as we provide good defaults and don't bloat the UI and prefs.
Yea, it would be really nice to start week on Friday. Just one day till the weekend. :-)
LOL. Hey, but maybe that is a use case for people who are retired ;)
There is a book "Monday starts on Saturday" from famous Russian sci-fi writers. Highly recommended reading, even so it was written over 40 years ago. I can't judge English translation, but original is absolutely brilliant. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Monday-Starts-Saturday-Arkadi-Strugatsky/dp/0954336828 http://home.freeuk.net/russica2/books/mond/1.html
Interestingly there has not been much demand for this and the current UI is nice and simple. But we should consider this for 3.0 since the UI is lacking some completeness without this.
We should consider this for 3.0.
+1 I'm not *personally* affected by this all that much, but it's sort of a peripheral "bothers me" issue.
+1 for choosing the week day - we start on Sunday and end on Thursday.
While we have prioritized this for the 3.0 timeframe, a patch could get it into a build a lot sooner. Please post if interested in providing one.
To bring in some of the discussion about "when is the weekend", I'd like to point to http://www.noooxml.org/muslims (see the list of weekends at the end) -- maybe the upcoming preference setting can exhibit a bit more global cultural awareness than M$'s OOXML proposal :-)
Rolf: very interesting, thanks for the pointer. It is important that we are flexible with our notion of workweek in order to support the various cultural conventions, so I'll make this a P2 for Mylyn 2.3. Please consider voting for this bug.
Rob: with the new scheduleing facility, do we still need the work day start and end?

Let me correct myself, the end hour is used to set the default selection for the date with time select functionality. We could likely get away with some default and still eliminate both settings.
Great, let's get rid of it. Where do we have the time selection functionality left? The date chooser for Due Dates? Anywhere else?
Resolved. Created bug#227902 to address removal of end of day hour preference.
Rob: I just now noticed that the default start day is Sunday, whereas in prior Mylyn releases it was always Monday. I'm not necessarily against that change, but we should have decided this explicitly. When did this change go live?
This change went live as of April 19. It was hard coded to Monday but is now based on your locale: Calendar.getInstance().getFirstDayOfWeek() Let me know if you want to switch this up.
