Build ID: I20061214-1445 Steps To Reproduce: I couldn't find it in Bugzilla ... Following use case: - Open two editors. - Put them side by side >> do something so that only both editors are shown More information:
Created attachment 56422 [details] screenshot of a familiar "kiosk mode" We have two editors whose contents we want to see side by side. Double clicking an editor tab leads to:
Created attachment 56423 [details] screenshot of maximised editor area w/ 2 tabs The editor area is maximised now and we can change them by clicking on the tabs. What I want is to see them "maximised" side-by-side so double click on tab and move them side-by-side:
Created attachment 56424 [details] screenshot of editors side-by-side They're not maximised, so double click on on tab:
Created attachment 56425 [details] screenshot showing one maximised editor Hmm, the second one is gone ... What I would like is to have them both side-by-side:
Created attachment 56427 [details] screenshot of both maximised side-by-side What did I have to do as a workaround? Either - close all views or - create a new perspective w/ only the editor area
Eric, Aren't you working on something like this? PW
Sebastian, we're currently working on exactly this issue. If you go to the preferences then under General/Appearance you can switch the presentation to the '3.3 presentation (Experimental)' one. One of the features here is a new min/max story with the following features: - Minimizing a 'stack' moves it to the trim (where its views are still available as 'fast views') - Maximizing a 'stack' == minimize everything else - The EditorArea is a 'stack' Try it out...it still needs polish but should work well enough to use. (We're currently attempting to address some of the trickier issues (such as only providing a single min/max affordance in split EditorAreas to indicate this).
Just a heads up that this is expected to soon be part of default eclipse min/max behavior...
Hello, I think my bug falls into this. In earlier versions, up to 3.3M5eh, when two editors were side-by-side or up-down, in other words, split the editor between many editors, when one clicked on the editor's maximize button, that editor would then take up all the window space. That was very useful but is no longer working with 3.3M6.
Etiennel, thank you for taking the time to find an existing bug rather than reporting one (it's a far too rare thing). Sorry but i've gotta file this in the "it's not a bug, it's a feature !" category...;-), the other comments in this defect are asking for this feature. For the most part the feedback from the community is that you would most likely split the editor area in order to 'compare' two files. In this case it makes more sense to maximize the entire editor area than a single editor...
Eric, Thanks and I see the point. Though, I will still ask: Is it possible to make it optional? Sorry Etienne, we've made a 'firm' and concious decision that we're not going to make things like this 'preferences' (as we've done in the past) since this has lead us into a state where there are already soooo many preferences that nobody uses any). If you really need this you might consider switching back to the 3.0 presentation; Window->Preferences...->General->Appearance has a combo box at the top that lets you set this...
I understand. I think I'll be able to live with it :)
