The Help.htm file contained in the org.eclipse.birt.chart.examples.api.preferences package of the org.eclipse.birt.chart.examples folder contains outdated instructions for the BIRT 2.2 environment. The instructions should be updated to run the examples in a 2.2 environment using the WTP plugins to launch tomcat and run the web application. I'd like to submit a patch for these instructions and would appreciate it if a committer could comment on if this seems reasonable. Currently the instructions require installing the sysdeo tomcat plugin, which is not necessary if the WTP environment, bundled with BIRT 2.2 is used. It seems like a much cleaner way to run the example. Additionally, the Tomcat version used in this example is pretty old. If no one comments on this I'll submit a patch using the WTP server environment as the sample environment to configure and run the example. Regards, Susan
Thank you for proposing to contribute a solution to this outdated documentation. Please attach your contribution to this bugzilla entry, we will review it and check it in.
Created attachment 56600 [details] Patch for Help.htm with updated instructions for running the example on BIRT 2.2 This is the first patch I have submitted. The methodology I used to create the patch from Eclipse is: Java perspective, Team > Create Patch For Advanced Options, I selected the defaults: Diff Output Format: Unified Patch Root: Workspace Is this correct? If not, I can resubmit the patch, please tell me which options to select or how to do this. Thanks, Susan
Created attachment 56601 [details] New source file, Help.htm I am also attaching a new source file in case the patch does not apply. The attached Help.htm has some fairly signficant changes, and since it is just html I thought it might be easier to view the source. Susan
The patch looks good to me. Only a minor detail is that we are now moving to Eclipse 3.3 for the 2.2M4 release, so we should mention Eclipse 3.3 in the html, not 3.2.1. We can do this change ourselves, as it is really just one string change.
Hi David, Okay great. Sorry about that oversight. If you don't mind just making that one change, I'd appreciate it. Susan
Thanks for your contribution. Due to the network connection, currently the updated instructions is only available in local CVS.
