Description stibbons CLA 2006-12-05 12:04:44 EST
Build ID: Version: 3.2.1 Build id: M20060921-0945

Steps To Reproduce:
I'm behind a proxy and it uses to work to far. Recent change in password and accound should had an impact on the eclipse connection to this proxy, but the fact eclipse hangs without saying anything about the issue is really annoying.
1. I start eclipse
2. click on find and update
3. Eclipse hands and do nothing

I've updated the proxy settings on the internet page in the preference to reflect the change on my passwork, but it doesn't seem to solve the probleme. It look like a connection probleme or something similar, but an error message telling what's wrong would be welcome.

I hope this will help you develop and increase the quality of the Eclipse Project.

It's indeed still a terribly annoying issues.

The update manager is incredibly slow. No matter how you choose your mirrors (manual or automatic), at some point, it may take for hours and it just waits and waits.

What's even worse: when running the update, sometimes you have been able to connect to e.g. the first five 5 particular plugin update sites , but when trying the 6th, it decides to just hang. The only thing you can do is "Cancel" after half an hour, thereby rolling back the ENTIRE update process. It would be great if one could at least continue with the updates that HAVE been found so far.

In our experience, long hangs are caused by local DNS servers (behind firewalls) most of the time.
