Description Joseph Marques CLA 2006-11-19 22:07:58 EST
I use Eclipse for different lines of development across various projects. Sometimes, within a particular project, I work on multiple branches at the same time. So, I'm looking for something that would allow certain queries to be shared across certain workspaces. Here are some suggestions:

* Mark certain queries as "global", which would share them across all different workspaces automatically
* Support shared query groups - some queries are only relevant for a subset of the workspaces I use; thus, all queries relevant to project BAR would be put into BAR_GROUP; then, across the different workspaces for that project (BAR/trunk, BAR/branches/b1, BAR/branckes/b2), instead of trying to synchronize new or updated queries by continually exporting and importing my task list across different workspaces, I can add one of the global queries groups to my task list, which will automatically keep the enclosed queries sychronized across the different workspaces that are registered for that query group.

Task data already can be global. You just need to point each of your workspaces to the same .mylar data folder.

For hiding out, or filtering unrelated projects I thing concept of working set for the task list discussed some time ago would be more appropriate and should provide more flexibility.

Joseph: in addition to Eugene's comments, take a look at bug 130658 and bug 153573 Would the support discussed there address your use case?
Comment 3 Joseph Marques CLA 2006-11-20 22:55:15 EST
Mmm, yeah. That's essentially what I'm looking for. I didn't realize the data dir could be kept outside the workspace, and nesting is essentially the same thing as groups. So, I'll wait until the nesting mechanism is supported, try it out, and provided feedback on how well that satisfies what I was originally looking for.
