Description Petteri Räty CLA 2006-11-19 11:44:21 EST
The user should be left the option of not stripping the binaries. I will attach a patch that makes the Makefile skip stripping the binaries if the env variable NO_STRIP has a value. Stripping was added in bug 88129. This patch is needed for the Gentoo ebuild to follow the Gentoo packaging policy.

Seems easy enough. SN do you have a preference regarding how one would indicate to not add the -s switch?
Comment 3 Steve Northover CLA 2006-11-28 16:29:36 EST
Seems ok to me as long as SSQ agrees. Make sure the default is to strip.

This is fine for me. Make it gets done on all platforms.

Any interest in this still?

It would be nice to have that option (ideally controlled via env variable ) for downstream builds which ship debuginfo separately.

As build scripsts adheres to CFLAGS if set, it can be used to pass -s.
