Description Aaron Digulla CLA 2006-11-08 10:11:17 EST
When you have a couple of code lines with several annotations and the source is very long, they tend to get pushed into each other.

Fix: If this happens, Eclipse should show a popup when the mouse hovers over them (just like when you hover over the icon on the left if there are several issues in one line) showing all issues along with line numbers. The popup should be aligned with the ruler so that one can move into it with the mouse (like the code completion popup) and select one issue.

I would prefer some kind of "looking glass" that shows the markers near the mouse pointer in a zoomed window so that you can easier select the one you are looking for.

I like the looking glass approach but I would also like to to have an option to bring certain annotations to the top or to select which ones are visible (from those that are applicable for the visible editor). I know this can be achieved through the preferences but it would be much more helpful to have a quick facility for this.

For example if you right click on the overview ruler it could present a menu with check box entries for the annotations that would be displayed for the current file(as defined by the preferences). Each annotation could then be turned on or off by selecting the relevant entry. Options to show all and show none would also be useful.

Can this be handled under the same issue or should I raise another?

I don't think the problem is solved by adding per file/editor settings, but feel free to file a separate enhancement request.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.

If the bug is still relevant, please remove the "stalebug" whiteboard tag.
