Description Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2006-07-27 15:35:58 EDT
Can use Sun JavaMail API and out of the box JavaMail providers to handle pop3/imap/smtp servers, including security. There is also GPL connector for nntp.
Such approach would allow to use common UI between pop3/imap/nntp servers which could use different urls for connection.

An IMAP connector is now available form Tasktop Technologies: http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/Mylyn_Extensions .
Comment 2 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2009-03-21 23:35:12 EDT
Steffen, how can I get sources of the imap connector?
Comment 3 Steffen Pingel CLA 2009-03-22 01:20:12 EDT
The sources for the IMAP connector are not publicly available at this point.
Comment 4 Eugene Kuleshov CLA 2009-03-22 08:20:32 EDT
In this case I can't agree that issue is fixed. Besides, it wasn't reported to Tasktop project. Please leave it open, in case community will want to contribute, or close it as won't fix if you are not planning to accept the community contribution. Thanks.

We track integration requests in the Mylyn Bugzilla since it provides a central place for discussion and serves as an entry point for discovering Mylyn extensions. This doesn't necessarily mean that extensions will be available from the Mylyn project or as Open-Source if a request is closed.

Marking as wontfix since supporting email and news protocols is out of the scope of the Mylyn project. See comment 1 for a commercial extension that provides this feature.
Comment 6 Mik Kersten CLA 2009-04-09 13:02:15 EDT
It's always tricky to figure out how we can continue to get community interest for connectors that are clearly out of scope of the project, which is most bugs marked as [connector]. I wonder if we should make that more clear without needing to close bugs by making something along the lines of a "mylyn-outofscope@eclipse.org" email address.
