Launch "New Server Runtime" wizard from preference dialog, select any "Generic Server" types. The next Wizard page does not allow user to specify a name for the runtime while in creating a Tomcat Runtime, user can give a name in the wizard. This turns to be a usability issue. e.g if there are multiple version of JBoss 4.0.x server installed, I would like to name them according to their release number: JBoss4.0.3Sp1 or JBoss4.0.4, instead of the generated name: "JBoss 4.0" and "JBoss 4.0 2"
Unlike Tomcat, generic servers always have a runtime and a server, to avoid any confusions we should ask the name for both but a most likely use case for the users is to invoke the new server wizard from the New-->server menu and in that case runtime and server wizard pages are presented as if they are one wizard(if there is no runtime present), and the name field will appear twice creating confusion. If we have it for just runtime then the user will probably expect that name to appear on server view. I agree that having no place to edit runtime names is not good, I am afraid that putting the name field on runtime creation wizard may create more confusion.
I think this will create more confusion to novice users than it solves resolving.
