When the editor is starting up in some cases it adds a preference listener at the beginning of the constructor but other objects initialized in the constructor, like CCodeScanner, cause preference changes before the constructor has completed.

When you get back to CTextTools, it throws an NPE.  With open CDT editors on startup, it prevents eclipse from starting.
