In both 3.2 RC1 & RC2 on Windows 2003 server, the software update failed to proceed to download the discovered update as it shows there is 0 local disk space, while there is plenty of local disk space. This seems Windows 2003 specific issue. Also tested the same update with Eclipse 3.1, and it works fine.
Use a more recent release candidate (RC4) - this problem has been fixed.

Tried RC5, it still does not work. The symptom is that: in the Installation dialog page, the free space is 0 KB, and the Finish button is greyed out. If I changed to a new location, then the Finish button is enabled while the Free space is still 0KB. Something must be wrong with the logic of the Install wizard. Please see the attached screen capture.

According to Eclipse 3.2 plan, Windows 2003 Server is not a supported platform (i.e. not a platform we tested on). It would be great if we find what the problem is and fix it but the chances we will do it in the 3.2 time frame are slim.
Created attachment 43421 [details] Fix Function getWindowsVersion did not support windows 2003 server. Applying the patch seems to fix the problem.
I have just applied and tried similar fix [...if (osvi.dwMinorVersion>=2)...] for Windows XP x64 and it works fine. Win2003 and WinXP x64 are identified by the same dwMinorVersion == 2.
Will this patche be applied in the near future? tnx, bing.
We will release it into HEAD soon, but it will probably not make into 3.2. Most likely it will go into 3.2.1.

I am closing this bug please reopen if you still have problems in with new integration build or 3.2.1 builds
The latest integration build (eclipse-SDK-I20060718-0800-win32.zip) fixes this issue for me, thank you!
Build N20060721-0010 fixed this for me running Windows x64 on an AMD64 1.5 JDK.

great news. We want to thank Morten Tokle for providing the fix and Jonathan and Brian Smith for testing it.

Still experiencing this issue on Vista Beta 2 with eclipse-SDK-I20060725-0800-win32
This was a really ugly bug to let out the door. An easier way of finding out what's wrong than searching resolved bugs would be a huge step in the right direction, though a quick 3.2.1 with this fix would be ideal. I know it's stopped me from being able to roll out 3.2 (we use this to get checkstyle and we must have that tool available), which prevents us from adpopting everything from Java 5 to JUnit 4 to CDT.

I just tested using eclipse-SDK-M20060802-0800-win32.zip and I have the same problem. Is this fix included in 3.2.1 builds?
I also tested eclipse-SDK-M20060802-0800-win32.zip, and find the bug still present. Then I tried eclipse-SDK-M20060823-1200-win32.zip (actually eclipse-sourceBuild-srcIncluded-M20060823-1200.zip) and the patch [https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=43421&action=view] is already applyed there. So move to M20060823-1200 to fix (unless you have src dist and you can apply the patch manually and recompile the native libs, with -compileLibs flag, check SRC_DIST.zip/instructions.html)
I just wanted to add that I found this bug also on windows xp x64 and the move to a recent build (the 30 August merge build) also resolved it.
Created attachment 49986 [details] new update.dll from more recent buld I am using 3.2 GA and I ran accross this because my workstation is windows 2003 server. I fixed it quickly by extracting a more recent update.dll and replacing it here EclipseInstallPath\eclipse\configuration\org.eclipse.osgi\bundles\109\1\.cp\os\win32\x86
For those of you, like me, who are paranoid about downloading update.dll from this bug report, I can confirm that extracting the update.dll from <install_root>/plugins/org.eclipse.update.core.win32_3.2.0.v20060809.jar (which I got from the "3.3 Stream Stable Build" - a.k.a. 3.3M1 - release) indeed fixes the problem on my Windows 2003 system and I may now install extensions again. - Oli
Reopened for Vista. The NT Version for Vista is 6.0 (thus the patch requires minimal refactoring (osvi.dwMinorVersion=0 osvi.dwMajorVersion=6).
reoponening if this is the case, for 3.2.1 this would be *nice*

There will not be any more build submissions for the 3.2.1 build. Closing as fixed in 3.2.1 so we get accurate bug counts. Opened bug 158064 to address the issue for Vista for 3.2.2.
